However, although the residence was a lavish haven for the socialite for many years, the final sale hints that such over-the-top glamour may have been more than today’s buyers were looking for.

The Home Ivana Created
Ivana Trump purchased the Upper East Side townhouse in 1992 for about $2.5 million—the same year her divorce from Donald Trump was finalized.

What followed was an extensive and dramatic makeover that turned the home into a reflection of Ivana’s personality—filled with leopard prints, pink marble, crystal chandeliers, and plenty of gold accents.

A Touch of Versailles on the Upper East Side
After Ivana completed the renovation of the approximately 8,725-square-foot townhouse, the result was striking—an extravagant home unlike any other on the block.

The walls were wrapped in red silk, with red carpeting stretching across each level of the home. Gold details appeared on nearly every surface. Real estate footage from 2023 described the interior as having a “Versailles-inspired” style, with many of the late socialite’s original furnishings still present when the property was listed.

Her son, Eric Trump, remembered the lavish parties his mother threw for celebrities and royalty. He said the extravagance of the home truly “captured Ivana Trump.” The townhouse wasn’t just a residence—it was a bold statement.

July 14, 2022: Ivana’s Final Day
The sale marks the close of a chapter that ended tragically within those same walls. On July 14, 2022, Manhattan paramedics were called to Ivana’s Upper East Side residence shortly after 12:30 p.m. for a reported cardiac arrest.
They discovered the 73-year-old unconscious at the bottom of a staircase and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed that her death was caused by blunt trauma to the torso from a fall, and it was officially ruled an accident.
Just days before her passing, Ivana had been planning a summer getaway. Her close friend, Nikki Haskell, told Page Six that Ivana was set to leave for St. Tropez the following day—her first trip abroad since the pandemic had kept her mostly home for two years.

Haskell revealed that Ivana had been “completely confined” during the COVID-19 pandemic, seldom leaving except for a few nearby restaurants. She had been eagerly anticipating her first chance to travel again—a global trip was even planned. Tragically, her 64th Street home would be the last place she ever saw.

Giuliano Zuliani, who owns a nearby restaurant Ivana often visited, told People that she appeared unwell during her last weeks. “She didn’t look to be in good condition. She could barely walk and didn’t finish her meals, often taking them home,” he said.

Challenges in Selling the Townhouse
Following Ivana’s passing, her townhouse was listed for sale promptly. The initial asking price, set in late 2022, was a striking $26.5 million. However, despite the home’s prestige, buyer interest was minimal.

Over the following three-plus years, the asking price was repeatedly reduced. By November 2023, it had dropped to $22.5 million, and by the time a buyer was secured, it had fallen further to $17.9 million.
The property ultimately sold for $14 million, highlighting the complex interplay of legacy, luxury, and the modern market’s tolerance for extravagance. Records indicate the sale closed on February 27, 2026.

The numbers are remarkable. Purchased for $2.5 million in 1992 and sold for $14 million in 2026, the townhouse certainly increased in value—but the gradual decline to the final sale price tells a more nuanced story.

It’s easy to question why such a high-profile property faced difficulty in Manhattan’s competitive market. Prospective buyers were likely put off by the home’s unusual layout, which featured two formal entertaining spaces but lacked a full-sized kitchen.
Ivana reportedly acknowledged that she rarely cooked in her later years, relying instead on two compact, galley-style kitchens that didn’t quite suit the scale of the six-story mansion.

Whether the crystal chandeliers remain or the leopard print is replaced with something more suited to 2026 remains unknown. Regardless, after four years on the market and a $12.5 million price reduction, the Upper East Side’s most extravagant townhouse has finally begun its next chapter.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Trump family could not be reached for comment on the sale, and the buyer’s identity has not been disclosed.
When it was last listed, the townhouse still featured much of Ivana’s original decor. The new owner either acquired a piece of New York social history or signed up for an extremely costly renovation—or perhaps both.
