Richard Gere has officially closed a major chapter of his life in the United States after leaving his long-time Connecticut estate behind and relocating to Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their children. What followed has become a striking contrast between the past he left and the new life he is quietly building overseas.
Before the move, Gere owned a large historic estate in New Canaan, Connecticut—a 32-acre property he purchased in 2022. The home, a classic 1930s Colonial surrounded by gardens, wooded paths, and open land, was one of the area’s more recognizable private estates. Although he once considered turning parts of it into a working farm, he eventually decided to sell after committing to a new life in Europe.
After the sale, the property changed direction entirely. A developer purchased the land and received approval to divide it into multiple luxury home lots. Before demolition, preservation specialists salvaged architectural pieces from the house, including windows, fireplaces, woodwork, and even the original entranceway. While the main structure was ultimately torn down in 2025, several historic elements were saved and relocated.
As the Connecticut estate disappeared, Gere was already settling into a very different lifestyle in Spain. In interviews, he described the move as both a personal reset and a way to support his wife by bringing her closer to her home culture and family. He has spoken positively about Spanish life, praising its warmth, food, and slower pace.
The family now divides their time between two main properties in Spain. Their primary home is a private estate near Madrid, designed for privacy and family living, while another historic seaside property in Galicia connects Silva to her roots. Both homes reflect a blend of comfort, seclusion, and family-centered living.
Although the couple keeps much of their private life out of the public eye, occasional glimpses shared through photos and social media show a warm, lived-in environment: gardens being landscaped, outdoor seating areas surrounded by greenery, bright interiors with family photos and children’s drawings, and spaces designed for everyday routines rather than show.
These rare images have also offered a closer look at family life, including shared meals, home activities, and time spent together in relaxed settings. The children, usually kept out of the spotlight, appeared in some of the photos, drawing attention from fans who noted their resemblance to Gere.
Despite speculation, the family has suggested their move may not be permanent, with plans to continue splitting time between Spain and the United States.
Still, the overall picture is clear: while the Connecticut estate has been demolished and replaced with new development plans, Richard Gere has embraced a quieter, more private chapter in Spain—one centered less on property and legacy homes, and more on family life and a different pace of living.
