I thought I was finally stepping into the future I had dreamed of with the man I loved. But just as the wedding ceremony was about to begin, my fiancé’s five-year-old son ran down the aisle, pointed to a woman in the back of the church, and shouted, “Dad, you already have a wife.”
I had fallen for Andrew completely. He was warm, funny, devoted, and an incredible father to his young son, Liam. His story about Liam’s mother had always been heartbreaking—he said she had died giving birth—and I never saw a reason to doubt him.
On the morning of our wedding, I stood in the bridal room trying to calm my nerves while my maid of honor joked to keep me grounded. Everything outside sounded perfect: guests arriving, music playing, a life I thought I was finally about to begin.
When I walked down the aisle, Andrew was waiting at the altar, looking steady enough to calm me. Liam sat proudly in the front row, already feeling like part of my life.
