I was about six years old when it happened.
One evening our whole family was gathered around the dinner table. Plates clattered softly, several conversations happened at once, and the room was filled with the cozy noise that only a big family dinner can bring.
Then, right in the middle of all that talking, I suddenly blurted something out.
“Grandma! Should I tell everyone what you and Grandpa do when you’re in your room together?”

And there he’d stand—proudly shuffling a deck of cards while Grandma stood beside him, smiling and supporting him like his biggest fan.
