On Valentine’s Day, a man lost his temper at his wife, accusing her of being careless and a poor housekeeper, and in a fit of rage, he threw away the gift she had prepared for him. But by the end of the day, his actions came back to haunt him when an unexpected visitor arrived at their home.
Cora Morales woke up that morning feeling unusually happy. She was excited and nervous as she prepared a romantic surprise for her husband, Eric—carefully planning a candlelit dinner, his favorite meals, and a heartfelt gift she couldn’t wait to give him. Despite their financial struggles and busy life raising triplets, she had put her heart into making the evening special.
Cora and Eric had met at a business conference and quickly bonded over their shared background in foster care and their dream of building a loving family. They married soon after dating and became parents not long after. But as life grew more stressful—with Eric working long hours as the sole provider and Cora staying home with the children—tension slowly built between them.
On this particular evening, Cora dressed in a meaningful red dress Eric had once given her and prepared everything with care, hoping to bring warmth back into their exhausted routine. She set the table, baked a heart-shaped dessert, lit candles, and placed a wrapped gift beside his plate.
But when Eric arrived home, instead of appreciation, he reacted with anger. He mocked the setup, insulted her efforts, and accused her of wasting money. His frustration quickly escalated as he criticized the food, the housework, and even her role as a mother. When the children began crying, he lashed out again, blaming her for everything.
Hurt and overwhelmed, Cora explained she needed to buy diapers urgently but couldn’t leave the children alone. She left the house quickly to get them, while Eric continued venting his anger.
An hour passed. Then the doorbell rang.
Expecting Cora to return, Eric opened the door—but instead, a police officer stood outside asking if she lived there. What followed shattered him: Cora had died in a car accident.
In shock, Eric went to identify her body, unable to process what had happened. At home afterward, he broke down when he saw the untouched dinner and remembered the gift he had thrown aside. Inside it, he found plane tickets to Hawaii and a letter from Cora revealing her surprise—she had secretly gotten a job to help support the family and planned a vacation for them, having already arranged childcare.
The realization destroyed him. What he had seen as irresponsibility had actually been love, sacrifice, and hope for their future.
From that day on, Eric’s life was never the same. He devoted himself to raising their children, but he carried deep regret for the words he could never take back. Every Valentine’s Day, he visited Cora’s grave, wishing he had chosen understanding instead of anger.
