We adopted a 4-year-old girl, but just one month later, my wife shocked me by saying, “We need to send her back.”

Simon and Claire finally get the family they’ve been dreaming of after years of heartbreak and failed pregnancies, when they adopt a little girl named Sophie. From the very first moment, Simon is completely taken by her—she’s affectionate, trusting, and quickly becomes his whole world.

At first, everything seems perfect. But soon after bringing Sophie home, Claire begins to change. Small frustrations turn into growing resentment, and she starts to see the child not as their daughter, but as a problem. One incident involving a ruined dress pushes her over the edge, and she suddenly insists that they “give Sophie back.”

Simon is stunned. Claire’s love and enthusiasm for adoption seem to have vanished overnight, replaced by anger and rejection. She even gives him an ultimatum—either the child goes, or she does.

But Simon refuses to abandon Sophie. For him, there is no choice to make. Despite the pressure and the collapse of his marriage, he stands firm in his decision to protect the little girl who now depends on him.

Claire eventually leaves, and Simon is left to raise Sophie alone. Though the process is painful and emotional, he remains committed to giving her stability, love, and safety.

In the end, Simon fully embraces fatherhood. Sophie, once a child who had already lost so much, slowly begins to heal in the care of someone who chose her without hesitation—and refused to let her be abandoned again.
