She was right. I had said those words a hundred times.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat wasn\u2019t exactly what I meant about traffic laws,\u201d I said, trying not to cry again.<\/p>\n

She gave a shaky laugh.<\/p>\n

That one went straight through me.<\/p>\n

I smiled through tears. \u201cWell\u2026 she definitely didn\u2019t get the driving skills from me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kathy laughed faintly, then winced.<\/p>\n

Later, Lily fell asleep in the chair beside the bed, still holding Kathy\u2019s hand. I tucked a blanket around her legs.<\/p>\n

Kathy spoke softly.<\/p>\n
